The Acemoğlu Hammam, built during the reign of Sultan Mehmed the Conqueror for the Acemi Oğlanlar (young recruits trained to become Janissaries), has endured to the present day as a reflection of the Ottoman approach to education, discipline, and refinement.

In 1826, when Sultan Mahmud II abolished the Janissary Corps, the Acemoğlu Hammam, which had been connected to the institution, transitioned into civilian use. It was later purchased by the father of the renowned Ottoman composer İsmail Dede Efendi and was eventually donated to the Yenikapı Mevlevihane, a prominent Mevlevi lodge in Istanbul.
